Do you remember making friendship bracelets when you were young? I remember making these all the time when I was a kid. Friendship bracelets seem to be making a comeback. They are fun and pretty simple to make once you get the hang of it.
This was a great project to do for my daughter. My daughter loves jewelry, and I knew she would love it if I made a bracelet for her. I started by purchasing some embroidery floss in color combinations that she liked, but in the end we decided to use similar shades for an ombre effect.
After all these years my memory was a bit rusty, so I turned to Youtube for some help. I found the instructions in this video to be most helpful.
The main knots used for making friendship bracelets are the right knot and a left knot.
I made this bracelet using a double right hand knot, as seen here.
Once you learn the basics, there's practically no limit to the designs you can make!
Your daughter WILL Love it! But don't ever get cheap with me. I want diamonds!

Hey, I do remember these, but I never learned to make them. I'm in the Christmas mode now, so I'm thinking lovely Stocking Stuffers!

ReplyDeleteIt never ceases to amaze me how fashions repeat themselves. Just last night I was going through some old pictures and saw a 13-year old version of myself wearing the exact same look as I had on yesterday - color blocking at it's best! lol
ReplyDeleteAnd now these friendship bracelets. Oh my, I was the friendship making queen back in the day. I remember stitching names in them and everything. And now, I will have to consult the Youtube video because clearly, it's been that long. Thanks for the reminder. Your bracelets look wonderful!
I never knew how to make them :(

Oh man I was crazy into making these! I even wrapped my embroidery thread on those cards and kept them in a case. I need to go out now and get some!!! I think I remember how to do it too! Attaching the knot to jeans or something stable was a good way to hold it while doing the knots. Thanks so much for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter would love to do this! I need to go check those videos. I love the ombre effect on yours. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNice work! I love the ombre effect too! I've never made that kind of bracelet, but I was into boondogle ( if you've ever heard of that) when I was a kid. Fun stuff!
ReplyDeleteI love this style. My oldest grandson (11) is making square knot bracelets as I type. I guess I should branch out and teach him another method... However, being the macho guy, he calls his SURVIVOR BRACELETS. :)
