You know you're from South Jersey when... you have BOOST! sent to you in Georgia. BOOST! is a concentrated blend of citrus fruit syrup that you mix with water to make a drink. I grew up drinking this stuff. When my aunt visited N.J. she surprised me by bringing me home a jug. I'm the only one in my house who likes BOOST! and since there was no way I could finish the entire jug before the expiration date, sadly most of it ended up down the drain. Instead of tossing the jug I decided to reuse it.
After washing out the jug and removing the label, it reminded me of Pottery Barn's Oversized Wine Bottles.

For fun, I added a design to the front using a rub on transfer.
I filled the jug with a few branches from my yard.
I love how it all came together! An inexpensive way to bring a little spring inside.

ReplyDeleteYou are always thinking :) Very clever I like the added touch of the transfer. You should share it at the Cinch party that's going on :) Enjoy your day!!

I grew up in PA - near Philly and never heard of Boost! But I love that bottle! I have a collection of old demijohn wine bottles so I have a soft spot for them. This is such a fun project!

ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the bottle. The decal just sets it off and it looks great where you have it. I love bringing in branches from the outdoors, too.
ReplyDeleteHi Brandi, that is every bit as fabulous as the PB ones. I've never heard of Boost. How did I miss that? My main computer bit the dust and now my backup laptop has joined it. I have to sneak a few minutes in on my daughters computer when she's not studying. I may be a little sporadic for a while...BOO HOO

ReplyDeleteI need to keep an eye out for BOOST! I love how you put simple branches in it.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of the drink but I do love the shape and size of the jug. I have started collecting some of the better bottles that are used in the house. This is a great idea and I like that you added the transfer.
ReplyDeleteHi, Brandi
ReplyDeleteShut up,too cute! I just ran out to my recycle bin (before it was picked up) this morning and grabbed my large apple juice jar to do this DIY. Awesome tutorial.
Hugs,
Vanessa
Oh,Brandi, I just saw your jug this morning from your link to 320*Sycamore. I love your idea! It looks so pretty, but it made me sad that you threw out most of the BOOST!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to mention that I've found that most food "expiration dates" are "best by" dates (in other words, if you use it by April 13, 2012, it will be at its best.) So, it won't hurt you to use it after the so-called "expiration date."
Also, that seems like something you could freeze, to keep it longer, if you have the space.
I hope you don't mind this long comment. Your home looks lovely!
Such a cool idea! thanks so much for linking up!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend
Girlfriend,
ReplyDeleteI'm from Riverton (not Riverside), but close enough and grew up with Boost. Now we have Boost slushies. Not sure if you remember the Mart and their soft pretzels, but a Boost slushie and a Mart soft pretzel are to die for.
So glad I found you.
I'll be following your blog.
And what are you doing in Atlanta? I think that's what you said. The jug looks great BTW!
Wendy
Girl, you never cease to amaze me!!That is so clever and pretty! PB is going to be bummed if they see it! :)
ReplyDeleteYAY South Jersey!
ReplyDelete(I'm from Hainesport, transplanted to Chicago)
What a great re-use of the Boost jug!
Love it! I have a few of these jugs and the transfer idea never occurred to me. It really turned out nice!
ReplyDeleteOK, that just is cute. I just saw some clear jugs at a garage sale on Friday and thought what could I do with those?
ReplyDelete~Bliss~

ReplyDeleteSophistication at it best!!! That is fabulous I need to request big wine jugs on Freecycle;)
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother gave me a similar jug full of pennies many years ago. I spent the pennies, but I have saved the jar all this time. I love how you used yours.
