You know you're from South Jersey when... you have BOOST! sent to you in Georgia. BOOST! is a concentrated blend of citrus fruit syrup that you mix with water to make a drink. I grew up drinking this stuff. When my aunt visited N.J. she surprised me by bringing me home a jug. I'm the only one in my house who likes BOOST! and since there was no way I could finish the entire jug before the expiration date, sadly most of it ended up down the drain. Instead of tossing the jug I decided to reuse it.
After washing out the jug and removing the label, it reminded me of Pottery Barn's Oversized Wine Bottles.
For fun, I added a design to the front using a rub on transfer.
I filled the jug with a few branches from my yard.
I love how it all came together! An inexpensive way to bring a little spring inside.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT!!! I fiddled around with a jug I have, you can actually see it on my Spring Mantel post. I just could NOT figure out what to do with it. SO, kinda lamely I tied a piece of matching fabric on it. It's all I could think of!!

I grew up in PA - near Philly and never heard of Boost! But I love that bottle! I have a collection of old demijohn wine bottles so I have a soft spot for them. This is such a fun project!

Oh,Brandi, I just saw your jug this morning from your link to 320*Sycamore. I love your idea! It looks so pretty, but it made me sad that you threw out most of the BOOST!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to mention that I've found that most food "expiration dates" are "best by" dates (in other words, if you use it by April 13, 2012, it will be at its best.) So, it won't hurt you to use it after the so-called "expiration date."
Also, that seems like something you could freeze, to keep it longer, if you have the space.
