The top of my dresser is the least organized spot in the house. Imagine piles of clutter where everything that doesn't really have a home ends up. I blame my husband! He claims not to notice the mess!
This weekend I was determined to keep my dresser clutter free. After putting things back where they belong, I decided to leave a few items out that my husband uses the most. I took an old tray purchased at a thrift store and gave it a quick makeover with decorative scrapbook paper and metallic paint. Once the paint dried, I sealed the top of the tray with Mod Podge.
Everything feels more organized, instead of sitting on top of the dresser I placed a few of his everyday items on the decorative tray.
Having a place for everything makes it much easier for him to find his things. The clock is ticking on how long this tidy dresser will last. Ha!
Looks great Brandi! xo Kristin
ReplyDeletePreety transformation and yes, men are so disorganized!! My husband's part of the dressing room is a mess 2 days after I de-clutter it!!
ReplyDeleteHave a good week!!

:D That's so right, they don't see any mess! I love the color and design on the paper, beautiful transformation!
ReplyDeleteI love it I still don't see your business page yet *side eye* you are awesome when it comes to home improvements.
ReplyDeleteGreat transformation. I love your projects--I'm so happy I've found your blog. Thanks for all the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLove the styling too! Looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLooks good!! Sadly in our bedroom, I'm the clutter bug! lol, in all fairness my husband can't seem to locate the hamper...so not cool!
ReplyDeleteThat looks really great Brandi. I need to make something like that for my makeup and jewelry. I just cant seem to keep those things in order.
ReplyDeleteFantastic makeover. Love the green paper and touch of metallic.
ReplyDeletePerfect Brandi!!! Mine also looks like a pile of junk! Need to do some organizing. Love the tray!
ReplyDeleteHope he appreciates your pretty styling! I'd have a tray on every flat surface in my house if I could, they're just so stylish and functional!
ReplyDeleteI would love to find that scrapbook paper in a fabric! It's a beautiful pattern and green! correct me if I'm understanding this wrong, but did you modge podge over the paper once it was on the tray? like a seal?
ReplyDeleteLauren
Hey Lauren! I found the paper at Hobby Lobby. They had a lot of fun, new designs. To protect the top of the tray from damage, I spread a little Mod Podge in between the tray and paper and another coat on top to seal it. Hope that helps!!
ReplyDeleteLooks good! Our dresser is a clutter magnet and I can't just blame my hubby, I have a lot to do with it too! ;) I love the paper you used!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on keeping it organized! I feel your pain...dresser tops just seem to call out for clutter in our house too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea. I love the contrast of the metallic paint and the scrapbook paper. I hope your husband can keep his tray tidy. It's so much easier with a tray. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great project! I'm guessing that it'll last because he'll be able to put everything right there!
ReplyDeleteNice work!
Pam
My husband keeps his side of the dresser after me giving him a little leather organizing tray. And, if he doesn't set things in the tray, I can just toss them in and he can find them.
ReplyDeleteYour tray is cute.
thanks Brandi!!!! I'm about an hour away from the nearest hobby lobby, I may need to find an excuse to go :p
ReplyDeleteLauren
Very useful Brandi! If you saw one of my dressers, you'd drive down here and slap me with that tray!
ReplyDeleteLOL...I think we all have places like that. Mine is at the in of my kitchen counter. and mostly its my husbands mess...LOL.
ReplyDeleteYour trey is a very pretty idea.
Great job.
May God Bless,
Marie Antoinette
You smart Chick! I love it. I think I need one of these on every flat surface in our house, LOL! :)
ReplyDeleteyou made this tray very pretty Brandi, I like the paper you used and then how you styled it! :-) and yes hubby over here, is the same; he never sees a mess! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove the new tray! You are so creative! And, I have a few drawers that need trays, too. First, the contents need to visit the garbage. Then, I can begin to think about organizing. Smiles and joy!
ReplyDeleteCool idea! Now all YOU have to do is keep it tidy! LOL
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Patti

ReplyDeleteI remembered putting a drop box on top of the dresser for his change & everyday stuff..after a couple of days it was full of receipts and everything else! Looks like a small trash bin to me lol!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty is that paper that you chose and that metallic paint makes it even prettier...did you mod posted over the paper too?

Good Morning Brandi, This is a fabulous idea as our dresser gets very messy as well, again I am not sure why, as we both should really put our things away. I blame my husband and he blames me....mmmm, but now I have a solution thanks to you.
ReplyDeleteBest Wishes
Daphne
this is what needs to happen to my husbands dresser... IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!! lol
ReplyDeleteI love your projects! Simple, easy & always so clever!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking at my dresser now as I read this and thinking I should so make one of these! But I would need it to be bigger for all the junk that winds up on mine!
Blessings....
ReplyDeleteStepped in to say hello and wish you a splendid week ahead.
I am afraid like your husband I have clutter on my dressers, mostly books books and more books among the basket with combs and brushes etc. The only difference is, i notice it, though i am yet to do something about it.
peace.
