Earlier this week, I cleaned the kitchen up before going to bed, like I do every other night of the week. Wiped the counters down, swept the floor, ran the dishwasher, went to bed. No Biggie!! Except this time was different, I woke up the next morning to a huge mess! Apparently the garbage disposal was clogged and the water from the dishwasher drained into the sink, causing the sink to overflow. The water in the sink spilled all over place, saturating the floors, the base cabinets and all the stuff inside the cabinets. Oh the drama that took place thereafter, I should have won an Oscar for my performance! I don't cope well with stress and my kitchen mess just took me over the top! We don't own a shop-vac so we got most of the water up with our carpet cleaner. Worked better than expected, but things are still wet and some mold has set in. Boo-hoo!
At this point our insurance company has been called and together we're moving forward to get this mess resolved. The floors are coming up and the base cabinets will be replaced.
But for now, my kitchen is a wreck and my nerves are bad! In the end I know everything will be put back together and I will love my new floors. Until then, I just need to get over myself and enjoy not cooking for the rest of the week!
So my friends, I'll see ya in a week or so while we're under construction!
Oh my dear Lord! I can just imagine what happened and THE WORK AFTER IT!!, even hubby said he's feeling bad for both of you...you see, many years ago it happened to us in a previous house in a HUGE,(more work) kitchen we had...I left the dishwasher running at night, after cleaning, no biggy, as you say. The following morning water and waste was all over the darn kitchen!... you see, the hose on the dishwasher came off the sucket and the water flow never stopped the entire night! I don't want to think about it even now! I'm sorry my pretty girl, at least you'll have new floors and cabinets, you have to post on Met Mon. at Susan's later! Thanks for sharing. Love, FABBY
ReplyDeleteAhhh, that is too bad...my washer did this a while back, had to do the same thing, put in a new floor! :(
ReplyDeleteOh Brandi, I am so sorry....I can only imagine how you felt when you came into the kitchen and saw the mess, I think I would have broke down and cried! I will learn from this, I will not be starting the dishwasher and going to bed as I have done many, many times before!! Can't wait until you're back!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, Brandi. Take a deep breath. I know your kitchen will be beautiful when all is said and done.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh! That really really sucks. But I'm jealous that you don't have to cook for a week;)
ReplyDeleteOh Brandi, I'm so sorry! What a pain!
ReplyDeleteIf you end up replacing your dishwasher, do NOT buy a GE Profile, top of the line, blah, blah, blah. :) We bought one last year and spent a ton. It doesn't clean well, isn't quiet and I am sooo sorry we got it! (just my opinion!)
Good luck getting your kitchen back!
Pam
My refrigerater had a slow leek for a year and I didn't realize that it was leaking until my wood floor starts to come apart.
ReplyDeleteI will always have a nice tile in my kitchen from now on.
sorry....go with tile next time.
Bless your heart!! What a disaster...hang in there!
ReplyDeleteOh my so sorry to hear about all the damage. My dishewasher leaked all over the kitchen one night, after that I have never turned it on and gone to bed. I make sure it is run very early in the evening or left to be run very early in the morning. I want to make sure it is off and no water anywhere. Hope yours gets fixed soon. Hugs, marty
ReplyDeleteOh goodness! Hope it gets resolved quickly.
ReplyDeleteoh no! girl, I'm so sorry! This is just awful!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry Brandi hope repairs go swiftly for you.
ReplyDeleteOH NO. What a way to start a day! Hope the repairs don't take too long.
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness! hang in there sweetie.Sending big hugs and sincere wishes for a weekend filled with joy, Katherine
ReplyDeleteand the Oscar goes to Brandi for The Dishwasher is Evil (I can hear applause)so sorry about this huge mishap...it did make for good reading. I hope things move quickly for you. No cooking that's not always a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteOh no!! I am so sorry that that happened, what a mess and a huge pain! We had that with out washer, it got clogged, ran out all over the floor and through the ducts down into the basement, ugh! What a mess. I hope that everything gets cleaned up quickly and just enjoy not cooking or cleaning the kitchen for a bit. :) Hugs to you!!

You poor thing! Good thing you have solid insurance!
ReplyDeleteAwww.... that must have been such a mess!! Brighter side -new flooring- that's what we should concentrate on, right? :)
ReplyDeleteOh Brandi, you poor thing. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. But on the bright side you'll have pretty new floors and new cabinets. Keep your chin up my friend.
ReplyDeleteNo fun! Can't wait to see your new floors, though!
ReplyDeleteYikes! No fun!
ReplyDeleteMy first time to your blog, love your great projects, Brandi. Your linen closet is so pretty, that wallpaper was a score!
Thanks for stopping by! :)
What a mess. My kitchen is crazy enough without a removed dishwasher so I can only imagine the grief! Hope everything turns out well!
ReplyDeleteOh Brandi, I really feel bad. That is a horrible thing to wake up to, and now you have the huge inconvenience of having your kitchen under construction. What a nightmare! I definitely would not have handled that well. Just keep thinking how beautiful your new floors will be:)
ReplyDeleteOh no, Brandi. You poor lovey. Ugggh. That's so horrible. I hope you hit it...and hit it hard!
ReplyDeleteBig hugs coming your way, sister.

Just when you think you'll start your day with a clean kitchen and clean dishes! Grr... hang in there, there's a blessing in there I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteHello Brandi! I'm so sorry that you had to wake up to such a mess but hey 2 bright spots to look forward to, no cooking, and new floors!
ReplyDeleteThis also happened to me. It was a mess. All new floors, walls painted, and new dish washer. The good thing that happened - I love my new wood floors.
ReplyDeleteQue pesadelo, minha doce Amiga! Porém, já que aconteceu, vamos enxergar só o lado bom da coisa: sua cozinha ficará mais linda e renovada com piso e armários novos! Relaxe, tudo vai acabar bem... estou torcendo por isso! Beijinhos.
ReplyDeleteThat's a bummer, but sometimes we have to stay positive. Years ago when my house I got flooded from hurricane I was able to get new furniture and have carpet replaced - a definite blessing in disguise. Try to stay calm and dream about your new kitchen you'll soon be showing off! :-)
ReplyDeleteomygoodness! What a mess, girl! I am so sorry that you have had to go through all of this. That almost happened to me the other night; but I happened to be standing there when it started to fill the sink up and overflow. I am looking forward to seeing your forced remodel. I know it's going to look fantastic. Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh Brandy! That's horrible, but at least you'll get a new floor and cabinets! But I totally understand what you're going through! We had something similar happen to us recently in our basement-not fun at all!
