Today I am linking up with, Jennifer, at THE PINK PAGODA for a Blue and White Bash.
I recently started updating our master bedroom. My first project was to paint our old dresser. Our bedroom is small, so to save space we placed our dresser inside of one of our closets.
We've had the dresser for over 12 years and it's showing its age. It's built well so we didn't want to get rid of it; it even held together after being dropped from a moving truck.
I debated about whether or not to paint over the wood, but I don't have any qualms about painting over an aged, beat up dresser!
After dusting the dresser with a lint free cloth, I gave the dresser 4 coats of Behr, Starless Night-flat paint(be sure to let each coat dry in between). I didn't bother to prime or sand it. Once everything was dry I gave it a protective finish. Like all D-I-Y tips, this method may not work for everyone!
Switching out the hardware is one of the best ways to update old furniture.
The new, clear-acrylic knobs are courtesy of D. Lawless Hardware. I was going for an antique look. I love the way the new hardware compliments the dresser.
All of the accessories are unique thrift store finds.
The results are amazing! I am always impressed by the power of paint. I hope you are inspired to tackle a project of your own.
*A huge thank you to Derrick of D. Lawless Hardware for providing the hardware for this makeover.
This is very timely for me since I've been shopping for a dresser on craigslist that I could paint and do over. Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that color! It really made the chest pop. I was going to paint one of my bookshelves white and put it in the closet too but now I'm thinking it should be a color since it will be in the closet. Make it pop instead of disappear in the space. hmmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteOR paint them white and the back the blue color! Oh...I like that idea!
Aaaaah, I did a similar color on my son's dresser too for the ORC Brandi! Love how you added that beautiful bling hardware on yours! I could't put anything flashy on my son's dresser but I think i added enough bling thru paint! Will share that one next week though because this week I'm sharing a DIY Bench we made for the nook!
ReplyDeleteLove it Brandi! Looks like a brand new piece off the showroom floor. The knobs are perfect!!
ReplyDeleteLove ...

You definitely made the right decision painting this! What a beautiful job and a perfect color. Love the knobs you chose too. And I love that there was no distressing - just a lovely piece of furniture now.
ReplyDeleteGreat job - it motivates me. :)
I love how it turned out. I especially love the color. My daughter has a dresser that needs a coat of paint but I don't think it is real wood. I am contemplating giving it a makeover. We'll see!
ReplyDeleteI love this shade of blue...it's great that you gave it the "Brandi-touch" instead of tossing it into a landfill. I can't wait to see what you do next!
ReplyDeleteYou did it again! Beautiful! Love the direction your room is taking. Paint does do wonders! We bought the dining table and chairs from the previous homeowners when we purchased home. I painted the chairs with chalk paint and was amazed at the transformation...
ReplyDeleteBrandi, the dresser looks great, brand new even. I'm really loving that shade of blue!!!

Brandi you are always inspiring. Your projects always turn out fabulous. I have my furniture in my room at my parents from when I was 2. It was a full size canopy wood set. It needs a makeover. I was thinking trash it, but you make it look like a fun project!

ReplyDeletethat color is awesome and love the new hardware! d lawless has sucha great selection!
ReplyDeleteIsn't paint amazing Brandi? These days there are such a range of colors. I love the one you have chosen.
ReplyDeleteI too have been looking for a candle cabinet. I was thinking about "painting" it with walnut dye, not that I have ever tried it, but, as I look at your gorgeous work, I may be better off opting for paint. The hardware is perfect!
Thank you so much for sharing...
As usual, the finished product looks great!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! The color is beautiful!

ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing! I never considered dark blue and I love it. You might have just inspired my next painting project. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI am not sure about the not priming and sanding it first as I have never done anything like this and not sure you have to in all cases. But this looks GREAT!

Brandi, I love the color of the dresser and the hardware is a perfect compliment.
ReplyDeleteOne gorgeous makeover!
ReplyDeleteI love the color! Gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! Gorgeous color and I like to hear that you didn't sand it! When I painted my shelves I made sure I figured out a way to do it without sanding...I think I would have lost my mind if I had to sand...
