There is one room in my house that I have yet to show you. The man cave man space, male sanctuary is actually our family room, but it's the one room in the house where my husband had complete control. YIKES!! He chose the paint that went on the walls, the flooring, accessories and so on. The room represented him and all the things he loved; posters of his favorite movies, a comfy couch and a flat screen television. It's a great room to entertain in. Whenever our friends and family come over we all tend to gravitate to that room.
The room started off with beige carpet and flat paint.
After about a year we hired out to have the carpet replaced with laminate flooring and the walls painted...orange. For the record I would just like to mention again that this was all. my. husband's. idea. ;) I have seen some really nice rooms painted in a similar shade, but the color just didn't sit well with me. At the time our bathroom on the same floor was green and our laundry room was blue. The colors didn't flow and I began to really dislike this room.
Then, our comfy chairs began to flake and peel. Apparently bonded leather is rated as some of the worst leather around, which really upset us because the furniture wasn't exactly cheap! So we saved our pennies and searched for furniture that would last more than a couple of years. When we found the sectional that we loved, I knew I could not allow our big purchase to sit in the room that I disliked most in our house. So I kindly suggested to my husband that we should paint the room and update a few accessories as well. And you want to know what he said...? He agreed, but on one condition, the movie posters had to stay.
We went back and forth deciding on a color to paint the room. He wanted a dark color, I wanted white. In the end we agreed on Treasure Map by Olympic. I love the how bright the room is now, even with all of our dark furniture. I am pleased that we have a room that we both can enjoy. I tried to create room that would be comfortable to us both; a masculine room with a feminine touch.
So what do you think? As much I thought I wanted to remove the movie posters, they're actually my favorite part of the room now. Can you guess which one is my favorite? Yep, I too am a huge Ryan Gosling fan!

Ryan Gosling....sigh...
ReplyDeleteAnd the room looks great too! In fact, I am really into that rug. It would be a grey update in my living room!
It looks fabulous Brandi! I would rather have movie posters than sports memorabilia any day! It's the best looking man cave I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteWOW, Brandi what an awesome space you created! You made those movie posters look good! :) It's the perfect mix of stylish and comfortable and your green and blue accents are spot on!
ReplyDeleteI know I responded to you on instagram but I love your man cave/family room. I love the mix of masculine with feminine and the posters are great! I like the lighter color on the walls, it works so well with the leather sectional.
ReplyDeleteWe're big movie fans at my house, SO, I love this room! I think the lighter walls are definitely better. Looks like a family cave to me.
ReplyDeleteAwesome space... Luv the rug...
ReplyDeleteI love love this when are you starting your design company.
ReplyDeleteYou did a wonderful job and I too like the movie posters! My fav is the "Rocky" one:) Everything tuned out so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your new 'Man Cave', Brandi! You did a wonderful job of keeping the room masculine but with plenty of fabulous style! I love every little detail. xoxo
ReplyDeleteBrandi! This room is amazing and very welcoming! You nailed it, girl! What a great place to hang out and watch a movie or just sit and chat. Everything is very inviting, soothing and fun, all at the same time. LOVE! :D
ReplyDeleteLove it!!! I have to say I like the lighter color better than the orange. It is light and airy but still masculine.
ReplyDeleteBrandi it's so awesome. Oh my gosh what a difference, but I think any man would love to call that space a mancave. Love the colors and that green bench. Great job.
ReplyDeleteHi Brandi! All I can is 'wow,' what a fabulous transformation and yet you still were able to keep your hub's favorite things. Just like the old soap commercial said, "Manly, yes, but I like it too!" Jane
ReplyDeleteOmg, Brandi!!!! This looks so good girl! The the paint color and definitely the posters. My husband would LOVE to have a space like this!
ReplyDeleteLove your makeover! It is stylish, yet very masculine. Take care! Can't wait to see your next project!
ReplyDeleteWhat a magnificent change!!! You preserved the "man cave" part of the room without sacrificing style! (What IS it about Napoleon Dynamite that every guy loves so much??!?!! Ryan Gosling I totally get...although for a VERY different reason than the guys do! :-) And for your husband: Orange walls? Really, dude? :-) (Oddly enough, my son painted the kitchen walls of his first house - as a bachelor, obviously - a very distinctive orange. The kitchen was VERY small and there was only one window, so I felt like the walls were closing in on me when I was in there!)
ReplyDeleteWe have a leather sectional that is nearly if not totally identical to yours in our lower level recreation room. Comfy, isn't it? And you've decked it out nicely with a great array of pillows. The rug and curtains are really, really terrific! Blue has a masculinity about it that even women can enjoy, so it's the perfect neutral zone color! The greens and browns bring an organic feel to the space. I like it that you didn't go overboard with the flowers...just a few green plants and an orchid or two for a feminine touch. Very nice!
I like the bamboo shades. I think that's the direction I want to go on our lower level as well as in the family room and adjacent kitchen eat-in area of our home. They look really good behind pretty curtains!
Great job! Your he vs. she collaboration turned out just fine!
Nice job! I love it. Your hard work paid of wonderfully. Thumbs up to hubby too.
ReplyDeleteThis room is beautiful and looks very welcoming. We love the white walls and even think the movie posters are awesome! Thanks for sharing on our Brag About It Tuesday party. ~~ Sharon & Denise
ReplyDeleteThe space turned out so good!!! I love all the posters too - Everything works together so nicely and I love how everything is layered in. My husband would love a space like this!! :)
ReplyDeleteWow Brandi! What a complete and thorough tour of the room! That man cave is the bomb! It's not suppose to look that good. They are suppose to be least enticing to us to bombard it :)
ReplyDeleteBrandi,
ReplyDeleteIf I go one day to visit you, I think I'll be able to walk with my eyes closed, I already know how is your home sweet home!
The dog is doing pose for the photo! Tell me: How to get it?
Loved everything.
Kisses

What a lovely space you created, love the details and that rug is beautiful, I really like it! :-) & so nice how you integrated those frames. I prefer the new color or your walls too instead of the orange :-) much brighter and perfect for the summer! by the way, the dogs are beautiful, I have two small ones! :-) so glad to have stopped by today from Its Overflowing party :-) Ingrid
ReplyDeleteI'm IN LOVE with this! I too have a husband who is in love with movies, and I had a similar battle with my husband over the basement. You emerged victorious!
ReplyDeleteI especially love that you put the poster with Ryan Gosling as the main focus of the room...as it should be.
I seriously love this room so much. Can you come to my house and decorate? Please.
Great man cave! I would love this for my own living room! Love the rug and the blue and white design pillows! Would love it if you would link this up to Give Me The Goods Monday: 1 Party, 4 Blogs! http://www.rainonatinroof.com/2013/05/give-me-goods-monday-link-party-9.html

You did a great job! Just a little constructive criticism that might not pertain to your hubby but I think it could have used a few more manly touches in the fabric. Herringbone or plaid maybe. But it looks great, you should keep it as your own space for all your hard work!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this room is gorgeous now!!! I love those curtains and all your pillows! It does not seem possible that it's the same room as the before. And I'm like you- those movie posters are one of my favorite things in there now! They look super cool! Featuring this room tomorrow- it's so awesome I have to share it!!
ReplyDeletei'm waiting to buy a new sofa as well...bonded leather does have it's perks though since it wipes up better than unsealed:) what a fun man cave
ReplyDeleteThe man cave is wonderful. So glad your hubby compromised with the paint. I love the color choices, the array of textures, and designs. Gorgeous and super inviting! Yes, the movie posters are fantastic. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the room! Just the right touches of blue and green. Looks so comfy and I really do like the idea of the posters. Think I might try it myself. Great ideas. I like your style.
ReplyDeletegreat interior!!!I like your style!
