I met my friend Marla 12 years ago. We were introduced for the first time after chaperoning our daughters' first grade field trip. We spent a lot of time together. Our families ate meals together, confided in each other, looked after each others kids, went on picnics and long car rides. We all got along so very well. They always felt like family. When they moved back to Ohio it was hard.
Over the years we always kept in touch. They made plans to stay the week with us over spring break.
Here are a few of my favorite moments from their visit...
My friends are good cooks. We ate well while they were here. Marla makes her own homemade tortillas. They came out perfect. I may never want to buy store bought tortillas again!
Meet the bean pie! An unique, sweet potato-like dessert made from navy beans. Once we had it, we begged Sean to make it for us again. We fought over the last piece! LOL!
We had lots of fun arranging and rearranging flowers in the kitchen too.
Their teenage daughter is quite the baker. We indulged in homemade pretzel bites and cheese sauce.
After a few belly rubs Bella always wanted to be by Marla's side.
Our husbands have always got along really well. They loved hanging out and playing chess several. times. a. day.
On a sunny morning, we explored Stone Mountain Park. We took the cable car to the top.
We were rewarded with the most beautiful views.
Can you spot the men hanging from the ropes? We were told they were doing regular maintenance; checking for cracks etc.
The girls enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere.
The cherry blossom trees were blooming beautiful pink flowers.
We had such a great time together. They were the most gracious house guests. They bought along gifts. They were always cleaning up and offering to help. We laughed, cooked together, shopped and stayed up late talking. I'm so thankful for their friendship. We miss them and the great moments we shared.
So happy you had a wonderful visit with friends. Friendships are our most precious commodity and should be cherished. Maybe before too long you can plan a trip to Ohio! Oh and do you think the pie baker will share the recipe? I'm intrigued!
ReplyDeleteI love all of those smiling faces, Brandi :)
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great week you had! You must do a post on that pie (:

ReplyDeleteI second the motion for that bean pie. It sure does sound intriguing.
Thank you so much for sharing your week with us Brandi...
This sounds like so much fun! It's wonderful when friends come but everybody is comfortable enough to share in the cooking and projects. It looks like y'all were amazing hosts too. We have friends like this that were made when our kids were little...well in fact, my friend that lives in New York who I've shared on the blog before is like that. We've been friends for 20+ years now. Some people are just really special in your life.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great when everyone in the family clicks? That is a very special friendship and looks like you had a fabulous (and delicious!) visit!
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing to have such wonderful friends!! Sounds like everyone had a fabulous time together.
ReplyDeleteWhen friends visit it's such a wonderful time. I was smitten when I saw the bean pie.. My mom makes the best I've ever had.. We grew up eating them.. They are the bomb!!! Glad to hear you enjoyed them. I keep saying I'm going to learn how to make them, but they're a lot work.. But oh so worth it
ReplyDeleteBrandi this is such a sweet post. Your friends sound so wonderful. Good friends are rare and precious. Your hubbies remind me of mine, loves chess and introduced me to bean pie. It's so delicious! My husbands mom use to sell bean pies at the college store when he was at Rutgers.
ReplyDeleteIt is always great when friends make an effort to keep in touch and see each other. In a world full of social media 'connections', times like this is what really matters. Happy for you all!
