The front flower bed had become wild looking.
After years of not weeding the plants had become overgrown and unmanageable. As the spring weather rolled in it was time to tackle more yard work. So I dug up all the old plants in the flower bed and removed all the weeds.
Here's what the flower bed looks like now!
We have lots of shade in the front of the house, so I chose to plant hydrangeas. I love hydrangeas! I have 2 small plants on the other side of the yard that I've had success with so adding more was any easy choice.
Hydrangeas remind my husband of his late Nana. I planted them with her in mind.
The Endless Summer Hydrangea has repeat blooms from spring through fall.
Mulch adds the finishing touch.
I added few hanging baskets for instant color.
Flowers on the front step make for a pretty entry.
Cleaning up the flower bed truly made a difference. I enjoy sitting on the porch looking out into the yard much more now.
What have you been up to lately? Have you planted your flowers yet?
Very pretty! I love hydrangeas!
ReplyDeleteLovely! It does look so inviting!
ReplyDeleteLooks great, Brandi! We are getting ready to start our yard project, too. So much crazy fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I need to get on my yard work before it gets too hot and the mosquitoes come out.
ReplyDeleteLOVE!
ReplyDeleteThey look beautiful. What are their names and how big to they get? I would love to put some in front of our house. My Grandkids call me Nana too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a change. So much better and so pretty
ReplyDeletethanks for dropping by! Your yard is beautiful!
ReplyDeletei totally need to mulch, doesn't that make all the difference! the bed looks good with those hydrangea-did you happen to notice, when you visited, what that purple flower in my post was? i didn't plant it but it ended up there, and i think it might be lilac or hydrangea but i really don't know these things. ack. any help would be appreciated!
ReplyDeleteSo very pretty!! I need to break down and buy mulch for my flower beds.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog and leaving your comment. I've read through some of yours ~ quite interesting!
Love hydrangeas! Wish I had shade for them. Everything looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful Brandi. I am still dealing with empty hanging baskets here in Canada as the weather is very diva lately. Way too risky to plant flowers just yet.
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful, and OH how I love hydrangeas. I had only one at our last house and once Hubby gets done with all of the updates he is making to our yard, I plan to put in a few hydrangeas. They are so wonderful... even after the blossoms dry. Just love that about them. Thanks for sharing your flower bed update! xox
ReplyDeleteYour yard looks wonderful, and hydrangeas are one of my favorites too :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet comment on my blog, I appreciate it :)
Beautiful! Love hydrangeas. We planted a couple endless summer up front last year and they are huge this year!!
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful and ready for the nice weather. Blessings, Catherine
ReplyDeleteHello Brandi,
ReplyDeleteI really liked this post today because gardening is one of my favorite things to do. Your flower bed is looking very nice, and I love looking at different flower pictures. I noticed the cherry napkins below and smiled, as CHERRIES are my favorite fruit. You have such a lovely blog. We would love it if you would follow us, and I would certainly come back and follow you as well.
It's so nice to meet new friends.
Have a sweet day.

You can't go wrong with fresh looking flower beds and lots of color. It all makes you smile. :)
ReplyDeleteYour flower beds look so pretty! I love the hanging baskets. I'll have to look for the Endless Summer Hydrangeas. Maybe they would grow in Texas too? I've wanted to try to grow hydrangeas for a long time. It's amazing what a difference fresh mulch can do, isn't it? Everything looks so neat and colorful!
ReplyDeletethose hydrangea bushes will the prettiest thing in the entire block!! So, so beautiful. I just came back from my friend's house who has them in her backyard and they really are spectacular!

ReplyDeleteBrandi, your yard looks great and I love all the pretty flowers. The rug is super cute, too. Too bad I can't sit on your porch with you... :)
Brandi you have made it look so beautiful..gardening is such a rewarding chore
ReplyDeleteHi Brandi! Your flower beds look beautiful! I just watched a segment on hydrangeas by P. Allen Smith this morning, it made me want to plant some and now your entry has convinced me that it is a sign! My flower beds look like your 'before' shots right now. Thank you for the lovely comment on my blog! Your blog is wonderful. :)
ReplyDeleteUuuuggghh! You reminded me how badly I need to fix up mine - I have tons of weeds sprouting about!!! Love you've gotten yours fixed Brandi!
ReplyDeleteYour beds look great! Hydrangeas are my faves! We have been sprucing ours up over this past weekend. In fact, I just did a post about it!

I seriously need to get out and do some weeding for the bed on the side of my house. It is so out of hand. Seems like while school is in session, it is hard to do. Hopefully, I'll be able to get outside soon and help out my poor plants and flowers....
ReplyDeleteHi Brandi, your flower beds filled with hydrangea is gorgeous and I can only imagine how stunning when full grown. Yes, my flowers are long since planted here in Texas and now I am babying them along hoping they are strong enough to withstand the high heat when it hits.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful rest of the week,
Hugs
Nice work!
ReplyDeleteHi! Your cleaned out flower bed looks so nice now! My husband loves hydrangeas but i guess we got the wrong kine as we don't have much shade and they did not do well. I was wondering if the hanging basket is purple wave petunia? Are they easier to care for than regular petunias that you have to deadhead all the time? Nancy
ReplyDeleteHi Brandi,
ReplyDeleteYour hydrangeas look very pretty. I have one bush that was already here, but I want to plant some more. I've been sprucing up this spring by planting flowers and doing a little painting, too. Everything is looking good at your place!
Love the hanging flowers! The purple is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great!
Hydrangeas are beautiful - love that you chose them for the front of your house. I've slowly been putting in plants, etc., but you've inspired me to get cracking on a new mat! Love yours.
ReplyDeleteHow I love hydrangea but the darn deer think its salad in my yard! I cant wait to clean out my flower beds too!
ReplyDeleteI love Hydrangeas as well! I planted so many in my yard over the years and they definitely do NOT disappoint! Mine have gotton so huge that I'm thinking of replanting some of them elsewhere in the yard. Enjoy! oh and p.s. I love that they remind your husband of his Nana. :)

oh, your hydrangeas are darling, brandi:) they have such pretty blooms, and when they get big--you can divide them! cute rug, too!
ReplyDeleteOooh, love the front yard makeover. The hydrangeas are a nice, clean touch. And the other flowers add pops of color. Very lovely.
ReplyDeleteI haven't started anything in my front yard yet. The day lilies are just now starting to come back, but they haven't bloomed yet. I have azaleas on the other side of my front yard which I want to move, but haven't read up enough about how to do that successfully. I would so much rather have them dispersed among the pine trees. You're giving me ideas. :-)
I too love hydrangeas. Now you've done it, I want to plant some too. I've been working on my patio, front yard is next. Love what you've done
ReplyDeleteHi Brandi,
ReplyDeleteYour flower bed looks awesome! It always makes me happy to see Hydrangeas...I have about 7 in my yard. They make beautiful cut flowers and last a long time.
Have a wonderful day!
charlotte
All your hard work paid off...

Its so relaxing to sit on the porch and your view is a beautiful flower bed!
Brandi so nice to "meet You" :) Sounds like Spring has truly arrived where You live.A perfect post for dreaming on the porch of warm breezes and My all time fave-Hydrangeas :)
ReplyDeleteHi Brandi,
ReplyDeleteSo nice to meet you!
How lovely your growing garden is looking. The white hydrangeas, in memory of your husband's nana, is such a sweet tribute to her. Enjoy the warm weather!
Poppy
Brandi-Your plants look wonderful! We have had day after day after day of rain here, so our lawnwork has been put on hold. Our grass is going to be a foot tall before it is dry enough to mow again. Goodness! I wonder if that hydrangea would be a good one for my part of the country. I love hydrangeas, too!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I too love hydrangeas and just purchased a few more to add to my cottage garden. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWow, Brandi, everything looks gorgeous! You did a wonderful job on your garden. It will no doubt bring you months of pleasure.
ReplyDeleteI would be thrilled if you could share this post at my weekly Say G’day Saturday linky party. It has just started and this would be a brilliant addition.
Best wishes for a great weekend,
Natasha in Oz
Hooray for you!!!!!!! Great job! We haven't planted one single thing this season so far. Heck, we had record low temps the last 2 nights, so I'm kind of glad we haven't! All the neighbors were scrambling to retrieve their old sheets and such to cover their newbie plants. We just kicked back and watched with amusement. Didn't they read the Farmers' Almanac???!?!?! :-)
ReplyDeleteWe did some weeding today and hope to get to the planting in the next week or so. We want to be sure this cold snap is over once and for all!
OMG Brandi!! They're all so lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteHello fellow GA Blogger! Nice to meet you too!
Susie
Wow! I am impressed with the variety of projects that you take on - all the kind of stuff I've never been brave enough to try. Maybe it's time...
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the sweet comment on my blog!
You're going to love having those hydrangea blooms to harvest each Spring! I love how clean and neat everything looks now. Your new rug is beautiful, too. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteKim @ Curtain Queen Creates
Those look gorgeous - as someone who spent part of yesterday trying to pull all the weeds from her front yard, I'm quite envious! (I was in no way successful.)
ReplyDeleteOooh, the new landscaping looks wonderful. I really need to get out in my yard, but something always comes up to take my attention away. I love that dark-colored mulch. That's the one I always use and I think it looks so rich and has great contrast with green plants and bushes. Your new doormat is really cute too. :)
ReplyDeleteLooking good!!! I am glad you have luck with your hydrangeas, mine gets nice and big and I'm lucky if I get one or two flowers!! I'm sure I must be doing something wrong. But now you make me want to go out and get a few more and try a different location in my yard. Best wishes for lots of blooms!
