The front flower bed had become wild looking.
After years of not weeding the plants had become overgrown and unmanageable. As the spring weather rolled in it was time to tackle more yard work. So I dug up all the old plants in the flower bed and removed all the weeds.
Here's what the flower bed looks like now!
We have lots of shade in the front of the house, so I chose to plant hydrangeas. I love hydrangeas! I have 2 small plants on the other side of the yard that I've had success with so adding more was any easy choice.
Hydrangeas remind my husband of his late Nana. I planted them with her in mind.
The Endless Summer Hydrangea has repeat blooms from spring through fall.
Mulch adds the finishing touch.
I added few hanging baskets for instant color.

Flowers on the front step make for a pretty entry.
Cleaning up the flower bed truly made a difference. I enjoy sitting on the porch looking out into the yard much more now.

ReplyDeletei totally need to mulch, doesn't that make all the difference! the bed looks good with those hydrangea-did you happen to notice, when you visited, what that purple flower in my post was? i didn't plant it but it ended up there, and i think it might be lilac or hydrangea but i really don't know these things. ack. any help would be appreciated!

I had only one at our last house and once Hubby gets done with all of the updates he is making to our yard, I plan to put in a few hydrangeas. They are so wonderful... even after the blossoms dry. I've wanted to try to grow hydrangeas for a long time. It's amazing what a difference fresh mulch can do, isn't it? Everything looks so neat and colorful!

I seriously need to get out and do some weeding for the bed on the side of my house. It is so out of hand. Seems like while school is in session, it is hard to do. Hopefully, I'll be able to get outside soon and help out my poor plants and flowers....

I was wondering if the hanging basket is purple wave petunia? Are they easier to care for than regular petunias that you have to deadhead all the time? Nancy

ReplyDeleteI haven't started anything in my front yard yet. The day lilies are just now starting to come back, but they haven't bloomed yet. I have azaleas on the other side of my front yard which I want to move, but haven't read up enough about how to do that successfully. I would so much rather have them dispersed among the pine trees. You're giving me ideas. :-)

Brandi-Your plants look wonderful! We have had day after day after day of rain here, so our lawnwork has been put on hold. Our grass is going to be a foot tall before it is dry enough to mow again. Goodness! I wonder if that hydrangea would be a good one for my part of the country. I love hydrangeas, too!

Hooray for you!!!!!!! Great job! We haven't planted one single thing this season so far. Heck, we had record low temps the last 2 nights, so I'm kind of glad we haven't! All the neighbors were scrambling to retrieve their old sheets and such to cover their newbie plants. We just kicked back and watched with amusement. Didn't they read the Farmers' Almanac???!?!?! :-)

ReplyDeleteOooh, the new landscaping looks wonderful. I really need to get out in my yard, but something always comes up to take my attention away. I love that dark-colored mulch. That's the one I always use and I think it looks so rich and has great contrast with green plants and bushes. Your new doormat is really cute too. :)
