Thanksgiving Decorating Ideas with Wallternatives

Hard to believe it's November already and the holidays are just around the corner.  Seems like Thanksgiving isn't a holiday most people decorate for.  We go from Halloween to Ho Ho Ho!  We host Thanksgiving dinner at our house, so I like to decorate for the holiday.

I started with big blank wall in my living room.  I thought it would be fun to give it a fresh, new look without being permanent.

These removable and reusable wall decals are perfect for Thanksgiving.

The Black and White Fall Phrases were extremely easy to apply and can be repositioned.  Use the squeegee to gently smooth out the creases.

Adding the decals turned my plain wall into a gallery.

Beautiful reminders,

appropriate not only for Thanksgiving, but all year long.

I created the wreath with hydrangeas cut from my front yard.  They started white, then turned lovely shades of pink and green.

Such a simple way to dress up the wall.

We all have many things to be thankful for.  Sometimes we don't realize those blessings until we no longer have them.

Chalkboard Inspired Ornament

I'm a little obsessed with the whole chalkboard craze!  It seems like it's everywhere I look.  I just wish I had a steady hand and fancy handwriting skills.

I was inspired by this image.  With the holidays right around the corner, I decided to create my own ornament.  The process ended up being fairly easy.  Here's what I did!

I began by separating and painting a mini-embroidery hoop with silver craft paint.  After the paint dried, I placed a piece of black fabric between the two hoops and trimmed the fabric close to the edge of the hoop.

Then, using my printer, I printed my inspiration picture out close to the size of my hoop.  I removed the fabric from between the hoops so I could transfer my image to the center of the fabric.  Next, I traced over the front of the image with a pencil, making sure to cover the entire image getting it as dark as I could without tearing the paper.

After lifting the paper from the fabric the outline of the image is now visible.

I went over the design with a sharp white crayon to make the details darker.

I love that I was able to create the ornament for cheap with materials I had on hand.

No annoying chalk smudges!

There are tons of chalkboard fonts and templates out there to explore.  The creative possibilities are endless.  Have fun creating your own chalkboard effect!

Butterfly Wreath

While cleaning and reorganizing my craft supplies I came across a bunch of scrapbook paper scraps leftover from old projects.  I decided the time was now to either put those scraps to use or recycle them!

I also kept several cardboard circles that you find in frozen pizza boxes. The cardboard is ideal for crafts and makes the perfect base for wreaths.  Like this one!

So that's what I did!  After cutting a circular hole out of the center of the circle I used my butterfly craft punch along with the scrap paper to make a wreath.  I attached the paper to the cardboard using my hot glue gun.

I wanted the wreath to resemble a flower so I added a few paper leaves.

To add dimension to the wreath, I bent the butterfly cut outs in half.

Pretty cute, eh!  With the soft pink colors, this would be sweet addition to a little girls room.

Valentine's Day Wreath

The most romantic day of the year is just around the corner.  I wanted to make something for Valentine's day, so I thought it would be fun to make a wreath.

While in the thrift store one day I stumbled upon this heart-shaped wreath for cheap.  I used it as the base for my wreath.  I covered the wreath with fresh baby's breath and pink paper flowers.
.
I wanted to jazz my wreath up a bit, so I attempted to dye the baby's breath.  I filled the sink half full with water then added a couple ounces of red food dye to the water.  I dipped each bouquet into the water a few times until the color began to set.  I left the flowers outside to dry overnight.

The color is very faint, but I love the shades of soft pink mixed in with the white flowers.

I finished it off with a simple bow made of jute ribbon. I love to use very simple and inexpensive supplies.

Do you think it's pretty?  I love how it turned out!  I hope you're inspired to make your own.

Natural Fall Wreath

Fall is in the air!  After a hot summer in Atlanta, I'm ready for cooler weather.  When it comes to decorating, fall is my favorite season.  I enjoy adding touches of fall throughout my home.  My first project was to make a fall wreath to hang in the kitchen.

To start, I purchased a grapevine wreath and a couple bunches of "filler flowers".  These will dry, and still look nice!

To make a nice, full wreath I started by trimming the stems.  Then I took each flower stem and stuck them into the grooves of the wreath until I was pleased with the look. No floral pins or hot glue required.  As each stem is added it should cover the end of the stem before it.  Continue until the wreath is completely covered.

I love the subtle shades of purple in the wreath.

With the addition of a few red pears to my all white display, my kitchen shelf is decorated for fall.
